Micanopy's best coffee, confections and gathering place. Enjoy our front porch as you watch the town go by or kick back in the backyard and enjoy gentle breezes blowing through the trees.

Our Story...

Mosswood is a woman-owned and family-operated bakehouse and gardens located in historic Micanopy, Florida. What began in 2007 as a joint family venture between Emily and her mom to create an old-fashioned general store reminiscent of those from rural towns of past memories has blossomed into a full espresso bar and micro bakery serving tourists and locals alike in a 1910 cracker-style farmhouse.

Our Journey

Mosswood is situated on nearly an acre and a half right off the main street in downtown
Micanopy. Emily works alongside her husband, Joe and her sister, Ashley. Their combined loves for cooking, baking, and gardening meld into a unique experience in Florida’s oldest inland tourist town.

We like to think of our style as melding retro classic baked goods with a modern twist. Over the years, our custom cake business has blossomed and has become a passion project of owner, Emily Piazza. Her whimsical floral designs and flavor creations are inspired by the local and seasonal fruit and flora of north central Florida. In addition to the coffee and baked goods you can find inside, Joe has been busy creating a permaculture inspired wild nursery and gardens in the back yard/garden or as we like to call it, our Yarden.

The property is home to over 25 varieties of banana trees as well as a large selection of
clumping bamboo, gingers and turmeric. We recently added two colonies of bees.

Emily Piazza, Owner

Emily splits her time between baking and decorating all the specialty cakes and many other sweet treats available from the pastry counter while also handling all the intricate aspects of running a small business.

Ashley Pevonka, Baker

Ashley handles back of house with all things savory, cooking up delicious fillings for all of our savory hand pies and quiches and frittatas.

Together, we share front-of-house duties so if you pay us a visit, you’ll probably meet one of the three of
us as barista of the day!

Joseph Pierce, Garden Manager/Bread Baker

Joe handles all aspects of the gardens which includes maintaining a banana forest of over 25 varieties of plants as well as a growing collection of clumping bamboo and turmeric and ginger plants. He also grows a small annual vegetable garden. In addition, he bakes our sourdough bread which is available on weekends during the fall, winter and spring. He hosts classes and plant sales in our back garden sometimes too. But, his main passion is permaculture design consulting and edible food forest production and teaching so he spends a good portion of his time traveling and teaching at off-site events and festivals.
